Hello there. I've been a GM for quite a few years now and have purchased and played a wide variety of rpg's (including that one). These days I have found myself with less time to prepare and play anything anymore and had recently hung up my dice bag. Lo and behold my children began asking me if I would run something for them (bless their hearts) and I agreed, as long as it was quick and easy. And so, one google later I found this system which seems to fit the bill quite nicely. We'll be gaming this week for the first time with Querp and everyone is very pumped. I'll let you know how it went.

I apologize for not posting sooner but "real life" has intruded big time and I haven't even been online for a few days. :(

Anyway things are back to normal and I shall have a full report on Monday the 18th. Promise! :D

Here is the brief account of how two bold adventurers Cleo, priestess of the gods of light and her friend Kess, mage of the Emerald Eye came to loot the tomb of Marko, chronicler of the great warlord Almeka, conqueror of men.

ON LEARNING OF THE LOCATION OF THE TOMB OF MARKO:

After hearing of the tale of Marko and the rumor of his tomb of treasures Cleo and Kess talked with the local sage at length as they tried to discover the whereabouts of it. Having the higher Charisma of the two Cleo sweet-talked the sage and promised him any tomes of knowledge that the two might uncover. The sage promptly agreed (after Cleo's successful roll on Charisma, 14 vs. a 12 difficulty) and provided them with directions on how to get to the tomb of Marko.

A MATTER OF GOBLINS:

After provisioning as best they could our intrepid adventurers headed off into Greywood Forest well off the beaten path of the King's Road and away from the welcome protection of the Roadwardens.

After travelling most of the day they came to several crudely carved totems marking the beginning of the territory of the Festering Eye goblin tribe. Stealth rolls of increasing difficulty were called for to avoid the goblin patrols as they moved deeper into unfriendly territory. There were a couple of narrow misses but all rolls went in their favour.

Finally they had to get past a weighted gate guarded by the biggest goblin they had seen yet. They decided to fight. Initiative was rolled for and fell in the following order: Kess, Big Gobbo, Cleo.

Before combat Kess had cast Protective Aura on herself raising her defense to 12. She received a Blessing from Cleo at the same time giving her a bonus of 1 on her magic score raising it to 7. Stepping into the clearing Kess successfully cast her most powerful spell, Lightning Bolt and hit the Big Gobbo for 8 points of damage leaving it with only 3 health! A great shot.

Big Gobbo charged forward straight at Kess and swung its mace with all its might. Blue sparks flared from Kess' protective aura, but the Big Gobbo penetrated the wizardly defences with a nasty 6 points of damage to Kess.

Praying to the gods of light that her blow might hit her enemy, (using her once a day request), Cleo's morningstar automatically connected with the back of the Big Gobbo's head crunching past its defense rating for a healthy 5 damage. Big Gobbo fell to the floor of the clearing quite dead.

Rushing to aid her friend Cleo then successfully cast Healing Hands and Kess recovered 5 of her lost health points.

Finding nothing of value on the dead Gobbo they moved over to the weighted gate where Kess cast Levitation and they moved under the now floating barrier to the lands beyond.

They had passed successfully through the first part of their adventure and we stopped there for the night.

More tomorrow! :)

I've played the solo and a group session which went well. I think the solo has a loop in it - when you go trawling the pubs, you get stuck.

Combat and magic works well, a few typos but nothing to derail play.

Our group only gathers irregularly and aren't too fussed about lots of rules. I would suggest a few more spell options but otherwise QUERP is spot on for us.

Cheers

Just dropping in to say hello. I've just purchased the QUERP bundle from Drive-Thru after seeing an article about it this week on The Gaming Report, and am starting to read it. So far, I'm liking what I see. I'll post comments and some questions once I've gone over everything, but it's a pleasure to see a nice, simple, frpg again; I'm so tired of wading through 300+ pages of rules just to play a game. QUERP seems to have a very gritty, down to earth feel that I enjoy. Now to find my old copy of Keep on the Borderlands and plan an old-school game night...... :D

Regards,

V
